Activities
API will act to enhance academic activities at:
- the undergraduate level
- postgraduate
- continuous career education
To achieve this will require a diverse range of activities, differing according to the needs in different states and acting also to encourage the enrolment of students of the highest quality and postgraduate students to fill future academic roles.
Areas of Expertise or disciplines include:
- Machines and their control systems
- Power Electronics applications
- Power Systems Planning and Operation
- Intelligent systems, including protection
- Electric Power Infrastructure
- Distribution and Utilisation
- Renewable Energy and Applications
- Generation Technology
- Power Station Disciplines
- Asset Management
During 2007/08 API is focusing on the following activities:
- Implementing an API bursary Program for first year engineering students (generally to be run on a State wide basis).
- Developing a Power Engineering Promotional Video (DVD) for use in attracting young students to consider power engineering as a career choice.
- Funding specific activities at selected universities to improve power engineering capability (See Partners section).
- Seeking government funding for Power Engineering University Centers of Excellence, developed co-operatively to a National agenda, facilitated by API. (The approach proposed is to make the full range of power engineering fundamental competencies available to students by organizing access to the speciality/expertise areas of various universities throughout the country.
- Providing a program of Continuing Professional Development “Masterclasses”/Short Courses to industry and members (API has taken over all the short courses previously run by esaa).
- Ownership of Sponsorship of the 2008 API Electric Power Engineering School to be hosted by the University of Tasmania in February 2008.
