Past events
The following is an archive of past events and short courses conducted by API in cooperation with a university engineering school:
- ICHQP Conference
28th Sept - 1st Oct 2008: The premier International Conference on Harmonics & Quality of Power (ICHQP) is coming to Australia for the first time. The conference scope encompasses all facets of power quality from monitoring and modelling through to standards and compatibility. more
- API PowerChem 2008
Biennial conference features international keynote speakers: Dr Barry Dooley and Mr Andre Zeijseink. The conference covers Cycle Chemistry, Heat Recovery, Steam Generator Chemistry, Condensers and Condensate Treatment, Water Management & Treatment and Clean Coal Technologies. more
- 2008 Residential Power Engineering program
February 2008 and be hosted by the University of Tasmania
The API 2008 Residential School has adopted a new model, which
involves three one-week modules to satisfy different industry needs.
The first week includes tutorials and workshops for recent graduates
and new employees to the power industry with the target audience
from 2 to 5 years of experience more
- Modern Partial Discharge Detection and Analysis for Insulation Assessment
July 24th & 25th: Two day Professional development course The course will provide coverage of modern PD diagnostic methods and pattern
interpretation for a range of equipment types. There will also be practical demonstrations designed to exhibit the capabilities of modern PD techniques. more
- Power System State Estimation – Master Class
Adelaide 11 & 12 August 2008 and Sydney 14 & 15 August 2008:
This two-day master class is designed to educate practicing engineers about the requirements of state estimation as it relates to front-end processing in SCADA and EMS and to examine the formulations and tools on which it is based. more
- Professional Development Short Course Emergency Operations in Power Systems Master Class
There has never been a greater need to train system operators. Simulation based training is used by today’s leading edge utilities to accelerate the experience of new entrants as they prepare for real-time operations.
Close the Gap
The gap between power system engineer and system operator can be bridged through the use of simulation. The engineer can see his or her studies enacted in a safe environment while the operator can provide feedback and input from the front lines.

- Reactive Power Management & Voltage Stablity
Two-day intensive Course 19th 20th of July 2007
Presented by international expert Prof. Ian A Hiskens. The course will establish a clear understanding of the basic concepts and issues underlying reactive power support and voltage control. It will present methods for analysing static and dynamic voltage phenomena, and relate those methods to reactive power security margins. more
- Residential Program
Preliminary notice of the 2009 API Power Engineering Summer School. This is the energy industry's premium accelerated career development residential program to be held in February 2009, hosted at Curtin University of Technology more
- High Voltage Engineering
This 3-day course will introduce the failure mechanisms in insulation systems, the importance of good design, appropriate
testing of prototypes and at commissioning, and methods of monitoring of the health of insulation systems. more
- Reactive Power Management and Stability
Two-day intensive ‘master-class’ presented by an international expert: Melbourne, 17 and 18 April; Sydney, 29 and 30 April. more
- International Trends in Managing Power Quality and Voltage Dips – Master Class
24 & 25 September 2008 Master Class, covering the issue of voltage dips which are a serious concern to many industrial and other customers. A voltage dip with duration of 100 ms
may result in production losses of $1 million dollar or
more. For industrial customers, voltage dips are the main
power quality concern and have received a lot of
attention during the last 10 years more
