With the agreement of the Energy Supply Association of Australia (esaa) the ownership and responsibility of all future Residential Courses now rests with API. However, esaa and other industry associations (ENA,NGF) will continue to support the aims of the school and assist with marketing and promotion to their members.

The next API intensive learning residential course will be held from the 4th to 22nd FEBRUARY 2008 and be hosted by THE UNIVERSITY OF TASMANIA, HOBART.

THEME: POWER INDUSTRY SOLUTIONS FOR CUSTOMERS IN THE 21ST CENTURY
The following key industry topics will be covered throughout the program:
The school comprise a comprehensive program of presentations, discussion groups, practical workshops/tutorials, syndicate activities and technical visits.
THE FORMAT IS CHANGING TO MEET INDUSTRY’S NEEDS
The residential course objectives have been expanded to cater for the high number of recent graduates/new employees to the power industry, as well as the traditional update and broadening for experienced technical professionals and paraprofessionals, including those who may have been to previous residential schools.
HOW WILL THIS BE DONE?
The program schedule provides for:
- A two(2) week program from 4th to 18th February 2008 for recent graduates and new employees to the power industry
- A two(2) week program from 11th to 25th February for experienced professionals to update and broaden their knowledge
- Each of these programs will overlap in the middle week
- Special topic daily registrations will be available
The following weekly approaches will be taken:
- Week 1 – 10 to 12 blocks of learning on engineering fundamentals(typically a one hour lecture followed by a 2 hour workshop, laboratory and practical tutorial)
- Week 2 – national industry presentations on best practice technical applications, technology and industry trends( including in fields other than attendees own current specialty)
- Week 3 – industry panels and syndicate groups discussing current issues, challenges and solutions
However, attendees may select one of the 3 weeks on offer if this meets their needs.
QUALITY OUTCOMES AT VALUE FOR MONEY IS NOT CHANGING
The course will continue to provide:- A program by leading industry presenters for the industry
- a learning environment where industry personnel with similar experience come together to share experiences and develop personal networks for the rest of their career
- preparation of future managers of engineering teams with a sound , broad understanding of technical practices and application in power engineering
- a cost effective course program, truly competitive with commercial courses/conferences(typically $2500-$3500 for 2-3 days)
WHAT ABOUT FUTURE COURSES BEYOND 2008
The 2009 Residential Course is proposed to be held in PERTH, hosted by CURTIN UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY.
