Operations Engineers, Distribution Operators, Transmission Operators, Balancing Operators, Reliability Coordinators. Suitable for basic to advanced level participants.

Cost
The cost (including accommodation, food and a printed set of the course notes) for the API members or members of the Centre for Renewable Energy and Power Systems is $3,500 inclusive of GST and for non-members the cost is $4,250 inclusive of GST. Special 10% discounts are available for more than 5 registrations received fully paid from the same organisation.

Simulation Training
GRIDOPS utilises the PowerSimulator network simulator, which is used each year by over 1500 system operators and industry professionals in North America. Participants will be put in the driver seat for implementing control operations and exhibiting sound decision making. In class team based scenarios challenge you to monitor the system and to communicate with other participants in differing power system roles.

Accelerate Experience

Simulation based training is used by today’s leading edge utilities to accelerate the experience of new entrants as they prepare for real-time operations.
Close the Gap
The gap between power system engineer and system operator can be bridged through the use of simulation. The engineer can see his or her studies enacted in a safe environment while the operator can provide feedback and input from the front lines.

Presenter
Dr. Robin Podmore has 40 years experience in development of computer applications for power system operations. His main focus has been on developing Operator Training Simulators that are less expensive to operate and easy to use. This focus has resulted in PowerSimulator; a joint effort between Incremental Systems, PowerData and EPRI. Since 2000, he has been working closely with experienced power system operators and trainers to build on-line and classroom training using PowerSimulator. Over 1500 of NERC certified operators are currently trained each year with either Custom of Generic versions of the PowerSimulator product. He has recently returned from Baghdad Iraq where he was responsible for training Trainers and Operators with the Iraq Ministry of Electricity.
Continuing Education Opportunities
The Australian Power Institute has identified a need to provide practical post graduate training for engineers employed in the power industry. This course will ultimately comprise part of a Graduate Certificate in Renewable Energy and Power Systems to be offered at the University of Tasmania, however initially it will be offered as a professional development course. It is aimed at power engineers who would like to broaden their appreciation of power engineering at both a theoretical and practical level.
