It has been a busy time in the last couple months with the API, in early November my colleague, Stephanie Somerville, and I were lucky to go down to Melbourne to attend the AAGE conference. For those of you who do not know, the AAGE (Australian Association of Graduate Employers) Conference held in early November 2024 is a landmark event in the world of graduate recruitment. Bringing together industry leaders, employers, and higher education professionals, this year’s conference addressed the evolving landscape of graduate employment, talent acquisition, and workforce development. At the conference, Stephanie and I were able to meet like-minded professionals in the graduate recruitment space to see how the API can fit in with the wider ecosystem of graduate recruiters and advertisers.
Key Themes of the 2024 AAGE Conference
The 2024 AAGE conference focused on several key themes, including:
The Future of Graduate Employment: Discussions on how technology, shifting demographics, and the changing global economy are reshaping career paths for recent graduates.
Diversity and Inclusion: Addressing the importance of fostering diverse workplaces and ensuring that graduate recruitment is inclusive and equitable.
Sustainable Talent Strategies: Exploring sustainable recruitment practices that align with organizational goals and the expectations of Gen Z and Millennial graduates.
Digital Transformation in Recruitment: A look into how artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and data analytics are influencing recruitment processes.
Workshops and Networking Opportunities
The conference was not only about keynote speeches and panel discussions but also featured practical workshops that provided hands-on experience and actionable advice. Some of the top workshops included:
AI in Recruitment: Practical tips on how to leverage AI tools in screening and hiring.
Building a Graduate Program: Step-by-step guidance on creating effective graduate programs that attract top talent.
Employer Branding for the Next Generation: Best practices for building an authentic and attractive employer brand in today’s competitive job market.
Stephanie and I had a lot of fun at the conference. We learnt a lot from it and we are now using the ideas from the conference to help make the API more competitive in the graduate and undergraduate space.
