The Australian Power Institute (API) is proud to be sponsoring the annual Australasian Universities Power Engineering Conference (AUPEC), taking place in Sydney this November, immediately following EESA's EECON conference. The AUPEC conference brings together academics, researchers, and professionals to explore cutting-edge developments in power engineering education and research.

We support the AUPEC conference every year as a key pillar in our efforts to strengthen university teaching for the power sector workforce, but we see our role as much more than just providing $$$ - we use the conference as an important forum to learn from and share with the power engineering academic community in Australia.

For 2024, the API team is excited to be leading three key sessions at AUPEC:

  1. API Workshop: Teaching Resources for Power Engineering (Wednesday, 4:30-5:30 PM) This session will focus on exploring new teaching materials that could be developed to support academics. We’ll be discussing real-world case studies, such as those from the RACE for 2030 CRC’s SEVI electric vehicle integration project, and gathering feedback on how these resources can enhance teaching.

  2. API Forum: Career Pathways for PhD Candidates (Wednesday, 5:30-6:00 PM)PhD students are the future leaders of our industry. This forum will provide insights into career opportunities for PhD candidates in the power sector and practical advice on how to navigate the transition from academia to industry, with the help of API’s resources.

  3. Panel: Bridging the Gap Between Academic Teaching and Industry Needs (Thursday)We’ll be hosting a panel discussion exploring the gaps between what is taught in universities and the skills the industry requires. This is a vital conversation to ensure that power engineering education remains aligned with the evolving needs of the sector.

Members of the API team will be attending different parts of the conference, including our new Undergraduate Programs Manager and our new Industry & University Partnerships Manager, over the 3 day event.

The API team is looking forward to engaging with our academic colleagues, sharing updates on our initiatives to support undergraduate students, PhD candidates, and the academic community. We see AUPEC as a critical platform for collaboration, and we are keen to share more about our ongoing efforts to strengthen the pipeline of talent into the Australian power sector.

We’re also excited to have the opportunity to present these initiatives in the context of our growing programs, including the PowerUP community and our ongoing support for industry-academic partnerships.

We hope to see many of you there to join the discussions and contribute to shaping the future of power engineering education in Australia!
