Celebrating Innovation and Excellence at the Energy Networks Australia Awards

I had the immense pleasure of attending the Energy Networks Australia (ENA) Awards dinner recently. It was an inspiring evening celebrating the outstanding achievements, innovation, and contributions of individuals, teams, and organisations that continue to transform Australia’s energy sector.

The Awards dinner was my first, and I can’t recommend it highly enough—what an opportunity to connect with the broader energy community and witness the exciting work being done across the country!

Congratulations to all the nominees and winners, and a special shoutout to the API member organisations who were featured so prominently! I’d also like to extend a personal thank you to Peter Langdon and the Endeavour Energy (NSW) team for hosting me and a big congratulations on your well-deserved win for the Consumer Engagement Award. And of course, many thanks to Dominique van den Berg and the Energy Networks Australia team for leading such a fantastic celebration of our industry.

As we look to the future of power in Australia, the projects recognised at the ENA Awards demonstrate just how important innovation is to the ongoing transformation of our energy services. These are not just technical achievements—they’re a testament to the incredible impact our sector can have on everyday Australians. Whether it’s doubling solar capacity, stabilising the grid, or co-designing microgrids with local communities, these innovations are ensuring a resilient, sustainable future for all of us.

The winners this year are truly remarkable, and fantastic to see the API's member organisations performing so well in the awards (a clean sweep):

🏆 Individual Contribution Award

James Brown from SA Power Networks for leading the world-first Flexible Exports project, which has doubled solar capacity and transformed South Australia’s energy landscape.

🏆 Industry Innovation Award

ElectraNet Pty Ltd for the South Australian Interconnector Trip Remedial Action Scheme (SAIT-RAS), enhancing grid stability and resilience. Read more

🏆 Consumer Engagement Award

Endeavour Energy (NSW) for the Co-designing a Microgrid at Bawley Point project, a community-led solution benefitting over 1,500 people with a renewable, resilient energy system. Read more.

🏆 Women in Networks Award

Dana Boxall from Powerlink Queensland for her leadership in developing the Transmission Easement Engagement Process (TEEP) and the SuperGrid Landholder Payment Framework, which is setting new standards in stakeholder engagement. Read more about Dana.

At the API, we believe in the power of such innovations to inspire the next generation of engineers and leaders, so the sharing of stories about these people and projects is very important (see API Board Chair Peter Langdon talking about Endeavour Energy's Bawley Point project to the ENA's media team).

Through our PowerUP program, we’re thrilled to share these cutting-edge projects with our undergraduate community, showing them the real-world impact they can have in shaping Australia’s energy future.

These achievements aren’t just inspiring — they’re a beacon of what’s possible when passion, expertise, and collaboration come together.

I’d like to close by congratulating all the winners once again. It was a privilege to be there on the night, celebrating the people and teams who are driving change in our sector. Here’s to the incredible future that lies ahead, and to the brilliant minds who will continue to lead the way!

Best regards,
