Celebrating NAIDOC Week: Honouring Indigenous Heritage and Empowering Future Generations

NAIDOC Week: 7 – 14 July 2024

Theme: Keep the Fire Burning: Blak, Loud, and Proud

At the Australian Power Institute (API), we are proud to join in the celebration of NAIDOC Week, a time dedicated to honouring the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year's theme, Keep the Fire Burning: Blak, Loud, and Proud, is a powerful call to action, encouraging us to celebrate Indigenous identity and resilience with pride and determination.

What is NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week is an annual celebration in Australia that honours the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee, which was the committee responsible for organising the activities during this week and whose acronym has become the name of the week itself.

Embracing Indigenous Identity

The theme Blak, Loud, and Proud celebrates the vibrant and diverse cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is a reminder to embrace and amplify Indigenous voices, recognising their strength and resilience in the face of adversity. As we celebrate NAIDOC Week, we honour the unique cultural expressions and the enduring spirit of Indigenous Australians.

Partnerships and Collaborations

At the API, we are committed to fostering diversity and inclusion within the power sector and actively seek partnerships with Indigenous communities, educational institutions, and organisations.

We aspire to work alongside, inform and inspire young talent on the career pathways and opportunities in the power industry AND build active participation in the undergraduate power sector programs such as API's POWER UP Scholarship.

Collaborations with Indigenous leaders and stakeholders ensure that our initiatives are aligned with the needs and aspirations of Indigenous Australians.

Together, we strive to create an environment where everyone can thrive. If you are interested in discussing collaboration opportunities, please contact us at info@api.edu.au or email me directly at david.pointing@api.edu.au

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate NAIDOC Week, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting Indigenous Australians and fostering a diverse and inclusive power sector. We recognise that the journey towards reconciliation and empowerment is ongoing, and we are dedicated to playing our part in this important endeavor.

Happy NAIDOC Week!
