About the Power UP Video Challenge

Learn from your peers about their placement experiences in the power sector

Exclusively open to students completing a Summer Placement at an API Member Organisation, the Power UP Video Challenge inspires our budding Power Professionals to explore their ability to share their Industry placement experience and develop their communication skills.

 

By sharing these experiences and their new industry knowledge, we can bring together the learnings for professional and personal development in students working towards a career in power.

Submission Requirements (mandatory)

Your checklist for winning one of 10x cash prizes!

1) Undergraduate students studying a power-sector related degree
2) Who are currently completing/or have completed a Summer Placement at an API Member Organisation over the 2024/2025 vacation placement period

3) If you are unsure whether your employer is an API Member, visit api.edu.au/members to confirm 

4) Ensure your video is no longer than 3 minutes in duration AND contains this slide at the end 

5) Get approval of video from company manager/management (more on this below).
6) Upload video to YouTube (and other platforms) using the hashtag #APIVideoChallenge and tagging The @AustralianPowerInstitute – both actions are mandatory).

7) Read below for further video requirements and bonus side quests!

What to include in your video (mandatory)

Here's how to stick to this year's theme

You must answer ONE of the following questions in your video:

1) How do you see power engineers having an impact?
2) How is your role making a difference in the Australian goal of net zero?
3) How is your project/organisation impacting the customers and community that you serve.
4) Explore the project that you worked on, and/or the projects that your organisation is doing.

Bonus round: Extra points up for grabs!

Answer one of the following bonus questions for additional points in the Judge's Choice Award criteria:

1) How has the API helped you in making an impact or progressing your career in power?

2) Students can reference the broader Power UP Program, Scholarship, conference attendance, Inside Industry, or the Power UP Summit.

Key dates and more 

Save these in your calendar to avoid missing out!

1) Video Submission date: Friday 21st February 2025 (end of Summer Placements)
2) Sunday 23rd March will be the last day of voting for the People's Choice Award.
3) During the week of Monday 24th March, we will be announcing all the winners and runners up on API social media so keep your eyes peeled to see if you won!

Awards and cash prizes

There will be a total of 2 winners, and 8 finalists, with cash prizes available for both

​1) People's Choice Award: This award is given to the video that has the most views on any ONE social media channel. For example: if I uploaded my video to YouTube, TikTok and Instagram and my video received the most views on Instagram, that is the number that will be used to contest the people's choice award.


2) Judges' Choice Award: All the uploaded videos will be judged by the Video Comp’s judging panel. 

  • Cash prize for winners: $500

  • Cash prize for finalists $250
