About the Power UP Video Challenge

Learn from your peers about their placement experiences in the power sector

Exclusively open to students completing a Summer Placement at an API Member Organisation, the Power UP Video Challenge inspires our budding Power Professionals to explore their ability to share their Industry placement experience and develop their communication skills.

 

By sharing these experiences and their new industry knowledge, we can bring together the learnings for professional and personal development in students working towards a career in power.

Awards and cash prizes

There will be a total of 2 winners, and 8 finalists, with cash prizes available for both

​1) People's Choice Award: This award is given to the video that has the most views on any ONE social media channel. For example: if I uploaded my video to YouTube, TikTok and Instagram and my video received the most views on Instagram, that is the number that will be used to contest the people's choice award.


2) Judges' Choice Award: All the uploaded videos will be judged by the Video Comp’s judging panel. Here are the Criteria that all videos will be judged by.

  • Cash prize for winners: $500

  • Cash prize for finalists $250

​

Judging Criteria for the Judges' Choice Award

Challenge theme: "Driving the Energy Transition: Power Engineers at the Heart of Change" 

Content Criteria (Scale 1-10 with 1 being lowest):

​

  1. How clearly has the participant answered one of the below supporting questions? (Scale 1-10)​

    • How do you see power engineers having an impact?

    • How is your role making a difference in the Australian goal of net zero?  

    • How is your project/organisation impacting the customers and community that you serve?

    • Explore the project that you worked on, and/or the projects that your organisation is doing.  

  2. Have they clearly explained who they worked for and what they have done over the vacation placement period? (Scale 1-10) ​​​

  3. Does their video inspire and inform viewers about the power sector and possible job roles? (Scale 1-10) ​

  4. Does the video show viewers what they achieved during their vacation placement (project/work/output etc)? (Scale 1-10)

Engagement Criteria (Scale 1-10 with 1 being lowest):

​

  1. Is their video engaging and interesting? (Scale 1-10) â€‹

  2. Is their video visually appealing/skillfully put together (call to action, subtitles, video transitions, background music etc)? (Scale 1-10)
